Last November, 85-year-old Norman Fishel of Olivette suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke, which left his entire left side paralyzed.
Three days after that stroke, while in the intensive care unit at Mercy Hospital, the octogenarian allegedly assaulted a nurse with the side of his body that still functioned. According to court filings, around 1:30 a.m., Fishel attempted to remove the catheter and monitor leads he was hooked up to. Nursing staff intervened, stopping him.
At this point, Fishel, with his “usable” hand, allegedly grabbed at the staff and kicked with one leg. Reading between the lines of the paltry court filings made against Fishel, it appears that he grabbed a nurse’s arm, potentially leaving a mark. A doctor administered a sedative, and police arrived a few hours later, around 4 a.m…
