September
I know this is the program is titled “the fall outlook,” but there is normally nothing fall about September. Even though we make it officially fall with the equinox, this month is normally warmer than you want it to be.
As we have already seen in the past couple of weeks, summer heat is not quite done. I think this September is going to continue to ride warmer than normal. There appears to be a first shift in the pattern just ahead, but don’t look for anything super dramatic. And for rain chances, we will generally stay on the drier side of things — unlike the last few months, we will close with below normal rainfall and potentially a deepening of the drought.
We started on the cool side last September, with temperatures warming by mid-month and above normal ending. We had nine days over 90 degrees. You already know about the heat, but cooler temps are within sight…
