ST. LOUIS – As frustrations mount over the return of train horns in St. Louis, Mayor Cara Spencer says the city is “doing everything we can” in an effort to restore its quiet zones.
In September, the City of St. Louis lost its designation from the Federal Railroad Administration as a “quiet zone,” where trains are not required to blow their horns when approaching railroad crossings as long as other federal safety standards are met.
A FRA spokesperson told FOX 2 the city is 217 months – more than 18 years – behind on providing paperwork in compliance with federal regulations for a quiet zone designation.
