MoDOT seeks new home for Big Mound Memorial after plaque stolen

ST. LOUIS – A monument honoring one of the most well-known Native American mounds in the St. Louis area is searching for a new home.

The Big Mound Memorial sits at the end of Mound Street off North Broadway. According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a plaque that was once affixed to a granite boulder at the site was stolen about a year ago.

A MoDOT spokesperson told FOX 2 News that the agency has a new plaque but is looking for the right party to host the monument, monitor it, and maintain it.
