City of St. Louis accused of threatening to condemn building Bar:PM occupies which police crashed into

The City of St. Louis has threatened to condemn the building St. Louis P olice crashed into back in December . According to the owners of the building, Kevin Benear and John Claus, they received a letter from the Public Safety department telling them they have until mid February to make the repairs themselves.

“Basically saying we had 60 days to have the repairs completed. Benear said, “if the repairs weren’t done when the inspector came by, we could be faced with a fine or potentially condemnation of the building.”

When they contacted the City Attorney’s office they were told to provide the city with materials Benear believes they should already have.

“I contacted the City [Counselor], filed a claim for the damage. The City [Counselor] wanted me to send the pics, the videos, the letter when they have the information from the city already.”

Benear says at this point he has not sent the city anything. John Claus adds they shouldn’t be receiving this letter in the first place since the police were the ones who crashed into the building.
