These four smokehouses in St. Louis have high ratings and great reviews

Pappy’s Smokehouse

A co-founder and owner of Pappy’s Smokehouse was Mike “Pappy” Emerson who has since retired. Another co-founder is John Matthews. This smokehouse wants its customers to feel invited and treated like their part of the restaurant’s family. Also, they strive to continue making the best barbecue.

Established in 2008, Pappy’s will tell you right off its website that this restaurant serves the best Memphis-style barbecue. In 2010, Emerson’s son, John, was working and helping in the kitchen.

Eventually, Pappy’s expanded to other smokehouse restaurants including Bogart’s Smoke House, Dalie’s Smokehouse, and Southern, each with its own flavor.

Pappy’s menu is full of all the good stuff like ribs, sides that include potato salad or sweet potato fries, sandwiches, and platters that include pulled pork, smoked chicken, and burnt ends.

Reviews

You cannot go wrong with this St. Louis staple….Even on a rainy Thursday, the place was buzzing with no empty seats, though we got a table quickly. There were so many good options, but I ended up going for the pulled pork + ribs with fried corn, green beans, and crinkle fries as sides….I also got to try the burnt ends which were magical. St. Louis barbecue really hits the spot. (New York reviewer.)
