Neighbor to abandoned unit: ‘We can’t keep living like this’

ST. LOUIS – A neighbor of an abandoned unit is tired of the constant crime they see and is looking for answers.

Tonia Jones has been fighting to get help from city hall to board up the house next to her on South Grand Boulevard. Jones said she has seen fires, drugs, and fights take place at the condemned house.

“We even have the problem of homelessness, human feces,” she said. “I got boxes around the perimeter of my home because of the rats and the bugs coming from this unit; it’s horrific and we can’t keep living like this.”

Police have been called 13 times for burglary, suspicious activity, and more.

“I’m not trying to ruffle feathers but the amount of people that I have contacted over the past three years in reference to this unit—there is no reason that I should still be going through this,” Jones said.

Jones has also contacted her Alderman, Shane Cohn, but she says it is constant back and forth with no solution.
