Man dies following overnight shooting in Nichols Park

UPDATE: Police have identified the man who died in an overnight shooting at Nichols Park as 23-year-old Darion Williams from St. Louis.

The Springfield Police Department says a female suspect in this case was arrested for unrelated charges. So far, charges for the shooting have not been filed.

In a press release, police said multiple people were there when the shooting happened.

This is Springfield’s ninth homicide investigation of the year.

According to SPD, officers were dispatched to Nichols Park around 2:30 a.m. for a disturbance when they found a man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
