Cardinals executive could be on hot seat after disappointing 2024

The St. Louis Cardinals are eliminated from postseason contention.

This will be the second straight October without postseason baseball for a team that prides itself on contending every season.

With five games remaining on their schedule, even a second straight sub-.500 finish isn’t out of the realm of possibility. A five-game losing streak would allow for that to happen.

This has led to much criticism for President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak. R.J. Anderson of CBS Sports listed him as one of a few executives that could be on the hot seat.

“There are two things the Cardinals don’t do: miss the playoffs and finish with a losing record,” Anderson wrote. “To do both in consecutive seasons has naturally fueled speculation about staffing changes.”

Anderson notes that Mozeliak is likely safe for 2025, but that there could still be changes. Chaim Bloom has spent this season as an adviser within the organization and has been brought up as somebody who could potentially take the reins as the next president of baseball operations.
