Inmate dies Saturday at St. Louis Justice Center, investigation underway

ST. LOUIS – An investigation is underway after an inmate died Saturday morning at the St. Louis Justice Center, according to the St. Louis Mayor’s Office.

The mayor’s office says a male detainee at the Justice Center died around 7 a.m. Saturday morning. Details on what led up to the death are unclear as of Saturday afternoon.

“The cause of death is under investigation, per protocol for all detainee deaths. Our priority is to complete the investigation, continue to update the family, and respect their privacy. We will share additional information as appropriate once it becomes available,” said Conner Kerrigan, a spokesperson for the Mayor of the City of St. Louis, via a news release.

The Chairs of both the St. Louis Detention Facilities Oversight Board and the Board of Aldermen Public Safety Committee have been informed of the inmate’s death.
