ST. LOUIS – An injured Ferguson police officer is about to embark on a new chapter of his recovery, and his sister could not be more thrilled.
“It’s almost like a weight has come off,” Ramona Gordon said.
Her brother, Ferguson Police Officer Travis “TJ” Brown, has been battling a brain injury after a protestor outside the Ferguson Police Department pushed him to the ground Aug. 9.
But now, Gordon’s baby brother will be flown to a specialized medical facility in Atlanta Tuesday. A police escort is planned from SLU Hospital to Spirit Airport in Chesterfield. The public is encouraged to stand along the route and show support for the officer.
In the last 90 days, Brown has remained in the ICU, undergoing several surgeries and a few setbacks. But he has also made some progress.

His eyes are open, and he is more responsive by the day, his family said. While the road to recovery will be a long one, doctors say Brown is medically able to now be transferred to the other facility for treatment.
Gordon said none of this would be possible were not for the St. Louis community. She credits the Ferguson Police Department, the St. Louis County Police Department, and so many individuals and organizations that have stood by her brother and her entire family.
