Former St. Louis-area postal worker accused of stealing 90 checks from mail

ST. LOUIS – A former U.S. Postal Service worker is accused of stealing dozens of checks from mail that circulated around the St. Louis area.

Benita D. Randle, 42, was indicted on one federal charge of theft of mail by a U.S. Postal Service employee earlier this month. She pleaded not guilty to that criminal charge on Thursday.

According to a federal indictment, on Oct. 31, 2023, Randle stole nearly 90 checks from mail that had been entrusted to the Postal Service for delivery. She reportedly stole the checks while employed as a supervisor at the St. Louis Processing and Distribution Center.

If convicted, Randle could face up to five years in prison and $250,000 in fines.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General
investigated the case.
