Red Sox trade proposal would land Platinum Glove All-Star in Boston for three-years, $52 million

The Boston Red Sox are still on the hunt for a right-handed bat, and this proposed trade that has been floating around for a while might be the answer. Done by Bleacher Report’s Zach Rymer , The Sox would get St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado as their answer. The full trade would go like this:

Sox get: Nolan Arenado and cash considerations

Cardinals get: Vaughn Grissom, and prospect Mikey Romero

Both sides win, albeit with some problems for the Sox. The Cards get Grissom to be their young star they start to rebuild around, and former Sox-turned-Cards GM Chaim Bloom gets his former pick back in Romero.

The Sox get their hitter, who slashed .272/.325/.394/.719 with 23 doubles and 16 home runs. However, Arenado comes with two problems; his age, and where he’ll play in the field. Arenado is 33, and with three years left on his contract, he could regress at any moment, and it may not be worth it for the Sox to get him.

Arenado is a third baseman first and a first baseman second. Both spots are occupied by stars that the Sox said they aren’t moving or trading away. That leaves the DH, but then the Sox would have to trade or move Masataka Yoshida, and Arenado’s defensive prowess goes unused.
