The Missouri Public Service Commission is holding public hearings this month regarding Ameren Missouri’s request to increase rates. For the average residential customer, the proposed increase would be approximately 15.77% or $17.45 per month, according to the Public Service Commission. Ameren serves approximately 1.2 million electric customers in Missouri.
According to Ameren, the increase will, among other things, help provide cleaner energy through three new solar centers and replace aging infrastructure with newer power lines, upgraded utility poles and substations, which will help speed power restoration after an outage and make the system more resilient to severe weather.
“We are committed to ensuring the system is reliable for all our customers while keeping costs as low as possible. As a result of the investments we have made, our customers are seeing fewer outages with shorter durations, delivering up to a 40% improvement in reliability on circuits with innovative technology and associated grid upgrades,” Warren Wood, vice president of regulatory and legislative affairs at Ameren Missouri, said in a release last June. “These investments, combined with our new renewable energy centers, help ensure we have a reliable and resilient system to serve customers today and into the future.”…
