St. Louis garbage truck crash claims life near notorious intersection

ST. LOUIS — One person is dead and police are investigating the scene of a garbage truck crash in St. Louis’ Mark Twain Neighborhood, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) said.

Investigators told 5 On Your Side that the driver of a car crossed the centerline, overcorrected, and hit the trash truck almost headlight to headlight near the intersection of Florissant and Geraldine avenues. Another car in the area was reportedly hit by shrapnel from the crash, the driver of which stayed on scene and helped police piece together what happened.

The driver of the car died at the scene and the garbage truck driver was transported to a local hospital and was considered in stable condition…
