Teenager Suspected of Armed Carjacking and Robbery in St. Louis as Engaged Parking Brake Leads to Victim’s Car Recovery

A reported carjacking in the 2800 block of Potomac St. escalated into an armed robbery yesterday afternoon, police say. A 21-year-old woman found herself the target of a teenager’s criminal ambitions shortly after stepping away from her vehicle, as per a news release on the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department website. The incident, which occurred at about 3:50PM, began with a seemingly innocuous request to use the victim’s phone.

The woman, in an act of generosity, was to enter the alleged father’s number when the boy, who appeared to be between 16-20 years of age, abruptly changed tactics. He grabbed the woman by the sweatshirt, threw her onto the ground, and forcibly demanded her possessions. A black gun was then produced, pressed against the back of her head as the assailant repeated his demands.

After she handed over her phone and keys, the suspect fled in her car, leaving the victim understandably shaken. A fortunate break meant that the carjacking didn’t turn into a kidnapping or something even worse. The victim managed to quickly distance herself from the scene, thus ensuring her safety…
