A long vacant Fairview Heights restaurant is demolished to make way for new business

Plans to construct a Plaza Tire Service at 218 Lincoln Highway in Fairiview Heights officially started this week with the demolition of the Long John Silver’s building.

Fencing circled the property and heavy equipment was lined up in the lot while workers mounted the roof to prepare the structure to come down. Demolition began Thursday, though slowly due to high winds, said Dallas Alley, land use and development director for Fairview Heights.

He said workers didn’t want to tear into the insulation and other materials that would easily release small particles and debris in the air.

The site is the future home of a new Plaza Tire Service facility that will include a 6,560-square-foot building with around 28 parking spaces…
