Spread the love
A kind woman had been taking out her trash on Monday morning and stopped in her tracks when she spotted a dog left tied to one of the dumpsters. His jaw seemed to be hanging down, he was filthy dirty, and his one leg was extremely swollen. No doubt, he had been abandoned.
The woman promised she would make sure the dog would get the help he needed. She brought him back to her home, set out food and water and fluffed up some cozy blankets on the porch to make him comfortable. She notified Stray Rescue of St. Louis, and it wasn’t long before the organization’s amazing chief rescuer, Donna Lochmann arrived.
Donna’s soft and reassuring voice, her gentle mannerisms, and her innate ability to soothe the most frightened pups quickly won the dog’s trust. She named him Spartacus. As he slowly walked towards Donna’s Jeep, his swollen leg nearly gave out; no problem for Donna – she picked him up, hugged him and placed him gently in her vehicle for the ride back to the rescue for the veterinarian staff waiting for the dog’s arrival.
Fortunately, Spartacus’ jaw is not missing as per radiographs nor was his leg broken. He is heartworm positive and is currently on pain medications and antibiotics. Dr. Oliver also performed emergency surgery to trim away all of the dead skin.
We’ve never seen anything like this before. Our sweet Spartacus. He feels your love, we promise. All the good you can send him, he knows. And he needs it.
We will keep everyone updated. He just has to fight this infection, and then we know he’ll be ok….
