ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – The city of Kirkwood is issuing an urgent boil advisory and canceling the day at several schools after a break in a water main on Thursday.
At around 8:55 a.m. Thursday, the city of Kirkwood posted on their government Facebook page that they are issuing a boil advisory for all customers of Kirkwood Water. The advisory comes after a major water main break near Marshall Road and Charmwood, affecting their entire system, the city said.
The following steps should be taken until further notice:
- Do not drink tap water without boiling it first. Bring water to a rolling boil for at least 3 minutes, then allow it to cool before using.
- Use boiled or bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth, washing dishes, making ice, and food prep.
- Discard any ice or stored water made recently from tap water.
- Untreated water may contain harmful organisms that can cause illness, especially in infants, young children, the elderly, or those with weakened immune systems.
The Kirkwood School District is dismissing classes for the day at:
- Kirkwood High School
- Nipher Middle School
- North Kirkwood Middle School
- Keysor Elementary
- Tillman Elementary
- Robinson Elementary School, including preschool
- Westchester Elementary
The high schools and middle schools will proceed with alternative methods of instruction; elementary schools listed are canceled for the day…
