Illinois Route 3 closed after train derailment in Sauget

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. – Illinois Route 3 is shut down after reports of a train derailment in Sauget.

According to TRRA General Manager Adam Mahlandt, the train derailment took place around 6:45 a.m. near Monsanto Avenue in Sauget, south of I-55, causing heavy congestion in the area. Illinois Route 3 is currently closed as crews actively work to cut the train in half to get traffic back open.

No injuries were reported in the incident. An investigation into the derailment is underway.
