Tragedy Averted Thanks to Fast-Acting Pool Patron

A Webster resident, mother and former lifeguard is thankful she was in the right place at the right terrifying time when she saw an unsupervised toddler fall into the deep end at a busy Webster Groves Water Park last weekend.

Onnalee Rakes-Fore said she worried when she observed two young boys under the age of 5 left unattended by an adult.

“It was right under a lifeguard stand and I know the lifeguard looked down at them and had seen them playing, but I was like, ‘Oh man, this is going to be bad,’” she said. “And then he (the child) truly was gone, and I just look over and I see dark underwater, no bubbles, no head — nothing.”…
