Police arrested at least 60 people, most of them under 18, overnight for illegal fireworks and other disturbances. Charges range from discharging fireworks and resisting arrest. When the parents of the juveniles arrived to pick them up, they were cited as well.
The crackdown began around 6 p.m. near 9th and Chestnut, where officers initially took two juveniles into custody for setting off fireworks. Later Friday night, several gun arrests were also made as part of the ongoing operation.
Police had been issuing warnings throughout the week, stating that dangerous fireworks activity would not be tolerated.
