ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – With the first half of 2025 over, city police say they have seen the lowest homicide numbers in over a decade.
According to a spokesperson with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, from January 2025 to the end of June 2025, there were 67 homicides within the city. This is the lowest number for the first half of a year since 2014, which saw 58 homicides by June 30.
In the last decade, half-year homicide rates have been as follows:
- 92 in 2015
- 92 in 2016
- 91 in 2017
- 84 in 2018
- 93 in 2019
- 105 in 2020
- 94 in 2021
- 90 in 2022
- 85 in 2023
- 86 in 2024
- 67 in 2025
Police data goes back to 1990, with the highest death rates for a year’s first half being 123 homicides by June 30, 1994. The rate stayed over a hundred for ‘94 and ‘95. The number would not reach triple digits again until 2020, when the city saw 105 homicides in the January through June timeframe…
