Storms and summer heat in the forecast for Wednesday

ST. LOUIS — Temperatures are climbing again across the region. Tuesday will see highs near 90 degrees, but the real heat arrives Wednesday, with highs in the mid-90s—likely the hottest day of the week. After that, temperatures ease slightly, hovering in the upper 80s to near 90 through the weekend. Another warm-up is expected early next week, with several days in the mid-90s possible.

As for storm chances, there’s a daily risk of isolated thunderstorms this week, but the best chances for more widespread activity will be Tuesday, Wednesday evening into the night, and again Thursday afternoon. Severe weather isn’t expected, but some isolated strong wind gusts are possible, along with heavy rainfall.

With weak steering winds in the atmosphere, storms that do develop may move slowly and erratically. That slow movement, combined with plenty of available moisture, raises the risk of localized downpours and flash flooding—especially late Wednesday…
