St. Louis Public Schools approves revised plan for school relocations

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Public Schools (SLPS) approved a revised plan Monday night to relocate more than 2,000 students displaced by the May 16 tornado.

The SLPS school board approved a revised relocation plan for seven damaged schools, aiming to ensure every student has a place to learn when classes begin on August 18. This comes after union leaders, representing teachers, principals, nurses, bus drivers, and other staff, pushed back on a previous plan due to safety concerns.

The revised plan involves significant changes to previous relocation proposals:

  • Sumner High students will now move to the vacant Stevens Middle School instead of Clyde C. Miller.
  • Yeatman-Liddell Middle School will relocate to Blewett, which currently houses an alternative program.

Elementary school relocations remain unchanged:

  • Ashland moving to Jefferson
  • Hickey moves to Walbridge
  • Washington Montessori to Ames.

Additionally, career training programs from Beaumont will be transferred to Miller, and Soldan High will operate out of Gateway STEM.
