The Tower Grove Community Development Corporation (TGCDC) is not just talking the talk, but also walking the walk when it comes to fostering neighborhood stability in St. Louis. TGCDC, formed by the merging of three neighborhood organizations, has been active since its inception in 2013, utilizing a strategy that focuses on supporting residents in various ways. According to Dana Gray, TGCDC’s Community Development Outreach Coordinator, their projects have been personally invested in by the community. “Our tenants are our neighbors. Our work is a personal investment in our community,” Gray told the publication. With funding from the City of St. Louis – Community Development Administration (CDA), the group has tackled the revitalization of vacant properties, housing stability, and growth of local leadership. The staff and board include residents, renters, landlords, which means, their experience informs their stewardship, as noted by the St. Louis Government website.
The ARCH by HomeScreen program stands as a testament to TGCDC’s commitment to community sustenance and adaptability, especially following the housing uncertainties triggered by the 2020 pandemic. This effort has allowed those at risk of homelessness to bypass traditional housing market barriers, pairing them with landlords who look past credit scores and eviction records.
