Since 1996, a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial has been traveling the country, bringing the comfort of the monument directly to the veterans who need to see it. The three-quarters scale replica, created by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund and called The Wall That Heals, stops in St. Louis County this week.
“We were really excited to bring The Wall That Heals to St. Louis County and specifically to Jefferson Barracks Park,” says Guinn Hinman, historic and cultural sites manager for the county. “Many of the names that are on the memorial, their final resting place is in Jefferson Barracks.”
The original, full-size Vietnam Veterans Memorial, designed by architect Maya Lin, is in Washington D.C. The black granite slabs are engraved with the names of service members killed or missing during the Vietnam War. The wall, completed in 1982, has more than 58,000 names on it…
