Armed Carjacking Suspect Fatally Shot by Police in St. Louis Following Foot Chase

Tragedy unfolded in the Hyde Park neighborhood of St. Louis last week, when an armed suspect involved in a recent carjacking was fatally shot by police following a foot chase. The incident began on Thursday, around 1:30 p.m., when St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) Intelligence Detectives were investigating a vehicle taken in a violent armed carjacking earlier that day, according to SLMPD. The stolen Ford Fusion was reportedly part of a carjacking from the intersection of Blair Avenue and Palm Street, where a 53-year-old man was forcefully removed from his car at gunpoint by a male suspect, around 1:20 a.m.

During surveillance operations, detectives observed several individuals arriving in a dark grey vehicle, approaching the carjacked Ford. The situation escalated when an armed male suspect fled the scene as officers attempted an intervention. A foot pursuit ensued, with officers giving multiple commands to the suspect to drop the weapon, however, the suspect continued fleeing into an alley at Salisbury & N. 20th Streets where the fatal confrontation occurred.

The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Carlos Jackson of St. Louis City, MO, was struck by gunfire. Despite immediate medical attention and lifesaving efforts by EMS who arrived on the scene, Jackson died of his injuries.
