St. Louis’ “gateway drug” to big-river paddling is back

To any St. Louisan who’s curious about big-river paddling but doesn’t know how/where to start, a trial run doesn’t get much easier than this.

The river rats at Big Muddy Adventures have resurrected their “Downtown Microadventures” for the first Fridays of September, October, and November. Each outing will set you back $40 and about 90 minutes of your time.

“It’s a really eye-opening trip for visitors and locals,” says River City Outdoors’ executive director, Matt Green. “You see this river your whole life, but to be on it is just totally different. A huge reaction we get is, ‘Why don’t more people do this? The water is so peaceful.’”…
