Construction begins on $15.5M residential conversion of downtown office building

ST. LOUIS — Work is underway to transform a downtown office building into apartments.

Blackline Design + Construction is redeveloping the Farm and Home Savings and Loan Association Building, at 1001 Locust St., into 60 apartments and ground floor commercial space. Apartments will range from 600-square-foot studios to 1,500-square-foot two-bedroom units. About 8,400 square feet of commercial space, able to accommodate up to two tenants, will be available.

Michael Schwartz, co-founder of Blackline, said rents are expected to start at $995 a month for studios, $1,200 for one-bedroom units and $1,500 for two-bedroom units…
