ST. LOUIS—A pair of initiatives looking to take regional approaches reducing murders and addressing homelessness are poised to take important steps this fall, including as early as September.
Save Lives Now!, the project that has a goal of cutting murders and non-fatal shootings in the city of St. Louis, St. Louis County and St. Clair County, Ill. by 20% over three years, has identified 1,150 people who are most at risk to be involved in violent crime, either as a perpetrator or as a victim.
Beginning next month in the Castle Point and Glasgow Village areas of St. Louis County and later this fall in the Wells Goodfellow, Hamilton Heights, Greater Ville, Walnut Park East and Walnut Park West neighborhoods of the city of St. Louis, plain-clothes police and other community members will start work on a focused deterrence effort.
