CLAYTON, Mo. – A man made his first court appeared Tuesday morning after being charged with fatally shooting a teenager in Spanish Lake last week.
According to Mary Schmitt, a spokeswoman for the St. Louis County Police Department, the shooting happened just before 10:40 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, near a business in the 11000 block of Larimore Road. Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert and later learned the victim, Damonte Hightower, had been taken to a hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

Hightower later succumbed to his injuries just after midnight on Aug. 30. He was 17.
Homicide detectives reviewed surveillance video in the area which shows Nykelte K. Wilburn, 23, shooting Hightower after a verbal altercation. Nykelte was arrested on the evening of Aug. 30…
