Jennings man charged after deadly shooting in car with baby inside

JENNINGS, Mo. — An 18-year-old Jennings man was charged Thursday in connection with the deadly shooting of another man over Labor Day weekend.

According to the St. Louis County Police Department, Deandre Coleman Jr. was charged with:

  • One count of first-degree murder;
  • Two counts of armed criminal action;
  • One count of unlawful use of a weapon to shoot at/from a motor vehicle at a person, motor vehicle or building resulting in death or injury; and
  • One count of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, creating a substantial risk.

Police said the shooting happened at about 11:35 p.m. Sunday in the 2100 block of Fairhaven Drive in Jennings. Officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation and found shell casings in front of a home there. About 30 minutes later, a man who had been shot was dropped off at a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators identified the victim as 21-year-old Eric Baker of St. Louis County. According to court documents, Baker was seated inside a vehicle on Fairhaven Drive when Coleman, who was standing outside, fired three shots into the car. Two of them struck Baker.
