17-year-old sentenced after admitting to DUI crash that killed his Columbia High School classmate

COLUMBIA, Ill. — A 17-year-old was sentenced last week after admitting to driving under the influence in a 2024 crash that killed one of his passengers and injured others.

Trevor Stawizynski pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated DUI resulting in death in connection with the Sept. 1, 2024, crash that killed Crawford Bryant.

According to the Illinois State Police, the deadly single-car crash happened at about 3 p.m. on Hanover Road, about a quarter-mile west of Illinois Route 3. A preliminary investigation revealed a Waterloo police officer had seen the vehicle speeding on Illinois Route 3 shortly before the crash…
