St. Louis Police Seek Public’s Help in Unsolved 2023 Killing of Mozell Lenoir

As the sun sets on another year since the killing of 18-year-old Mozell Lenoir, homicide detectives are reigniting their appeal to the public to help finally piece together a puzzle that has remained unsolved since 2023. Lenoir was fatally wounded in a shooting that occurred in the 4800 block of Cote Brilliante on September 1 of that year, and despite the passage of time, authorities have not yet been able to identify a suspect or ascertain a motive. A recent statement by the Homicide Division, retrieved from an update on the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s website, underscores the ongoing investigation: “Officers received a call for a shooting in the 4800 block of Cote Brilliante for a report of a male that was shot inside a vehicle.”

The details around the incident, which unfolded around 7:50 p.m., reveal Lenoir was inside his car when he was shot in the chest. He was transported privately to a hospital, but despite medical efforts, his life came to a premature end there. The challenge for detectives has been the lack of leads or tips to vigorously pursue, with information gaps that have kept the case in the cold file.
