St. Louis Sheriff vows to fight back after aldermen vote to restrain his spending powers

ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Board of Aldermen voted to restrain city Sheriff Alfred Montgomery’s spending powers on Friday after numerous controversies.

The Board’s bill was passed 13-1 and subjects Montgomery to a one-year probationary period, where his spending decisions will face heightened scrutiny by city Comptroller Donna M.C. Baringer.

Montgomery told 5 On Your Side that he plans to sue the city and block the board’s bill as soon as Mayor Cara Spencer signs it into law…
