For more than a week, phone lines serving the city’s Cahill Courts Building downtown have been down in what AT&T says was a case of copper theft.
A police spokeswoman confirmed that a report was made saying that an “unknown suspect(s) damaged/cut, and/or stole, phone cables that serviced the building.” The damage was discovered at Tucker and Chestnut, which courts spokesman Joel Currier says was home to underground cables servicing the adjacent building as part of the city’s phone system.
“We still aren’t completely sure if the lines were stolen or just severed, but we do know that they were severed,” Currier says. “I just don’t know if a significant section of the line was stolen in addition to that.”…
