North St. Louis shelter for survivors one step closer to opening

ST. LOUIS — A long-held vision to transform a derelict north St. Louis motel into a modern shelter for people in crisis is moving closer to reality, thanks to the perseverance of a local woman and an outpouring of community support.

Monique Buchanan, a St. Louis businesswoman, has spent years working to convert a former motel property into Eagle’s Nest, a transitional living space designed to serve survivors of domestic violence and, more recently, victims displaced by St. Louis-area tornadoes.
