ST. LOUIS – St. Louis City has the highest rate of deadly hit-and-run accidents in the United States, according to a California-based law firm.
The Law Offices of Christopher Chaney ranked cities and counties by the frequency of deadly hit-and-run crashes per 100,000 residents.

The law firm’s analysis also suggested that most of these fatal accidents involved pedestrians and cyclists. A 2023 police report estimated 40% of reported crashes in St. Louis City were fatal hit and runs.
Other counties such as Shelby County, Tennessee; Bernalillo County, New Mexico; and Orleans Parish, Louisiana also rank high on the list…
