Multiple child shootings trigger Crown Mart and community leaders to host gun violence awareness event

ST. LOUIS — Just days after announcing a new partnership to combat gun violence in north St. Louis, Breaking Generational Poverty Foundation and Crown Mart employees turned their words into action.

On Monday afternoon, dozens of families gathered outside the Crown Mart on Dr. Martin Luther King Drive for the first Gun Violence Awareness Event, an effort sparked by recent shootings that injured three toddlers in the same north St. Louis ward within seven weeks.

Organizers handed out more than 200 gun locks and ran out halfway through the event. They also distributed Narcan, fentanyl test strips, and job and health resources to anyone who stopped by…
