St. Peters woman who burned down 3 Puerto Rico businesses gets minimum sentence

ST. PETERS, Mo. — A St. Peters woman who admitted to intentionally setting a fire that caused significant damage to three businesses in Puerto Rico was sentenced Monday.

Danielle Bertothy was sentenced to five years in prison, the minimum possible sentence, months after she pleaded guilty to one count of the use of fire to destroy any building affecting interstate commerce. She was charged in connection with a January fire that destroyed Luichy’s Seaside Hotel, a restaurant/bar called Bar Marea and a souvenir shop called Artes Juavia.

Gelfand said they have requested that Bertothy serve her sentence near family in Connecticut. A judge will decide in the next 30 days…
