ST. LOUIS – A 26-year-old man was sentenced Monday for a 2024 shooting outside a downtown St. Louis daycare.
According to officials, Daron Lontrell Nelson was sentenced to serve 18 years at the Missouri Department of Corrections after being convicted in August of first-degree assault of a special victim, unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action.
On March 14, 2024, Nelson was in a car and pulled up next to another individual’s vehicle in the area of 23rd Street and Washington Avenue. A masked passenger leaned from Nelson’s car and shot at the 62-year-old victim, striking in the upper back and causing car damage. The victim survived after being transported to the hospital.
