ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Attorney General will add another count to the quo warranto petition seeking to remove St. Louis Sheriff Alfred Montgomery from public office.
Missouri AG Catherine Hanaway says the count aims to demonstrate that Montgomery cannot fulfill his responsibilities as sheriff while he remains jailed on federal charges.
The updated quo warranto case, originally filed in June by former Missouri AG Andrew Bailey, now outlines six counts alleging misconduct by Montgomery, including:
- Failure to perform duties of the office of the St. Louis Sheriff (while jailed)
- Unlawfully detaining acting St. Louis Jail Commissioner Tammy Ross
- Unlawfully detaining and disarming private security guard Darryl Wilson
- Failure to transport inmates for physical and mental health treatment
- Illegal use of the office for personal gain
- Financial mismanagement of the office
“The fact remains; it is impossible for Montgomery to fulfill his duties while he is incarcerated miles outside of the city he is supposed to protect,” said Hanaway. “He has failed citizens, detainees, and his own staff for far too long. We are adding a new count to our case asking the Court to permanently remove him from the office he has so blatantly forfeited. St. Louis has a bright future ahead and it isn’t with Montgomery as sheriff.”…
