Ex-St. Louis postal worker sentenced for $2.4 million in stolen checks

ST. LOUIS – A former St. Louis postal service worker was sentenced to prison for a scheme that involved stealing $2.4 million in checks from St. Louis-area mail.

Anthony Virdure II, 31, was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison on Nov. 3, nearly four months after he pleaded guilty to charges of mail theft and wire fraud, according to the U.S. Postal Service.

In December 2023, the Hazelwood Police Department notified postal inspectors and USPS special agents that a rental car had been returned with more than 30 stolen checks inside. Investigators determined the checks had been routed through a St. Louis-area post office and detected Virdure’s fingerprints on at least one of the checks…
