Archdiocese wraps up successful emergency food drives as government shutdown lingers on

ST. LOUIS — The Archdiocese of St. Louis launched emergency food drives this weekend and last to help people in need of food while SNAP benefits are cut off. Volunteers said they’ve never seen such a large need for food.

On Sunday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture told states to stop paying out full SNAP benefits for this month. The USDA has also demanded the states undo any steps already taken to issue food stamp payments, calling them unauthorized.
