The newest furry friend at the Saint Louis Zoo used to be an illegal pet

ST. LOUIS — The Saint Louis Zoo has a new member of its furry family, and she used to be an illegal pet.

In a Facebook post, the zoo introduced Lyla, a female bobcat kitten. The post said someone surrendered Lyla, who was living as an illegal pet. Because humans took her in, she can no longer live on her own in the wild, the zoo said.

Bobcats are native to Missouri and can grow to be about 50 inches from head to tail and weigh up to 40 pounds, but the post said they can be easily confused for housecats…
