St. Louis man gets 12 years in prison for robberies

A St. Louis man was sentenced Monday to 12 years in federal prison for a series of robberies and attempted robberies that targeted eight stores and businesses across the city.

Jermel Rush, 43, pleaded guilty in June to seven counts of robbery, one count of attempted robbery, and one count of using a firearm during a crime of violence. As part of the plea agreement, Rush acknowledged a sequence of crimes that took place over a five-month span in 2018.

Prosecutors said Rush first struck on June 21, 2018, when he used an Airsoft gun designed to resemble a handgun to rob a retail store in the 4400 block of Natural Bridge Road. During the incident, Rush grabbed a clerk by the neck, dragged her to the register, and fled with cash…
