A tragic confrontation on the streets of Benton Park West has left a young man dead and another facing serious charges. The St. Louis Police Department reported that on Sunday, officers responded to a call regarding a shooting at the 2800 block of Cherokee Street around 5:35 p.m. When they arrived, they discovered a 26-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite emergency medical services rushing to transport the victim to the hospital, he was later pronounced dead. The suspected shooter, a 27-year-old male, did not attempt to flee and was arrested at the scene. According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the initial investigation suggests a vehicular collision may have precipitated the fatal shooting: the victim allegedly sideswiped the shooter’s car, an action that seems to have escaladed quickly to violence.
Homicide detectives are actively piecing together the events that led up to the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing as they seek to understand all the factors involved.
