St. Louis – The St. Louis Board of Aldermen has unanimously passed a resolution in support of SEIU Local 1 essential janitors in their fight to win a fair contract that includes living wages and benefits for working families.
The resolution, sponsored by 9th Ward Alderman Michael Browning, comes after essential janitors overwhelmingly voted “No” on the Contract Cleaners Association offer, which included base wage rates just 45 cents above minimum wage and only seven cents more toward retirement that wouldn’t take effect until 2028. Additionally, accepting the contractors’ offer would’ve eliminated dental insurance for these working families.
The cleaning companies in the Contract Cleaners Association include the two biggest cleaning contracting companies servicing St. Louis, 4M and Clean-Tech, along with Woodley Building Maintenance, SBM, and ABM. Negotiations will resume on Dec. 2, 2025…
