Man kills brother in Cahokia Heights, then holds family hostage: Police

CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill. – A man accused of killing his brother in Cahokia Heights and later holding a family hostage in Shiloh has been arrested and charged, police say.

The St. Clair County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged Jerome D. Curry, 39, with the following offenses:

  • One count of murder or intent to kill/injure
  • One count of attempted murder or intent to kill/injure
  • One count of aggravated discharge of a firearm
  • Two counts of aggravated battery
  • Three counts of possessing a weapon as a previously convicted felon

The charges stem from a series of events Wednesday evening in Cahokia Heights and Shiloh, beginning with a shooting around 7 p.m. in the 4900 block of Piggot Avenue.
